N-Benzyl-N-ethylaniline (CAS: 92-59-1) is a tertiary aromatic amine used mainly as an intermediate for triarylmethane dyes and other colorants.

It is a pale yellow to brown liquid, insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents. After condensation with sulfonated benzaldehydes it forms brilliant acid and basic dyes.

Dye manufacturers value consistent purity and low colour, which carry through to clean shades.

It is stored in tightly closed containers away from light and oxidisers to limit darkening. Buyers specify assay by GC, colour and low residual N-ethylaniline and benzyl chloride.

• Dye intermediate: starting material for triarylmethane acid dyes used on wool, silk, leather and paper. Its reactivity supports consistent condensation yield.

• Pigment and ink production: used for lake pigments and specialty printing-ink colorants. The dyes are valued for strong colour and good affinity for protein fibres.

• Fine-chemical synthesis: building block for aromatic amine derivatives. Typical uses include writing inks and specialty coatings.

• Photographic and specialty chemistry: used in selected colour-developing and speciality dye formulations requiring a benzyl-ethyl aniline unit.
