Tetrasodium 1,3,6,8-pyrenetetrasulfonate is a fully sulfonated pyrene derivative, supplied as a pale yellow to greenish-yellow powder at 98% purity.
The four sulfonate groups make the molecule extremely water-soluble and chemically inert under most industrial conditions, while the pyrene core retains a distinctive fluorescence that can be detected at very low concentrations.
