Nonylphenol (CAS: 25154-52-3) is a mixture of nonyl-substituted phenol isomers, normally branched, supplied as a pale yellow viscous liquid.

It is the usual starting material for nonylphenol ethoxylates, phenolic resins and lubricant additives.

Because of environmental restrictions in some regions, buyers should confirm local regulatory status before purchase.

It should be stored closed, away from oxidisers and heat. Typical specifications include assay, colour, water content and isomer distribution. Regulatory limits apply in some regions, so users should check compliance.

• Nonionic surfactant intermediate: ethoxylated to make emulsifiers and wetting agents. Ethoxylation degree sets the HLB and end use.

• Phenolic resin and plastics additive: used in resins and antioxidant manufacture. Resin and stabiliser uses depend on the isomer mix.

• Lubricant additives: precursor to detergent and dispersant additives. Some uses are restricted in certain markets.

• Industrial intermediates: used for tris(nonylphenyl) phosphite and other antioxidants that protect polymers during processing.
