Tetra-tert-Butylphenoxyperylene Dianhydride
Tetra-tert-butylphenoxyperylene dianhydride is a perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride in which four bulky aryloxy groups replace the ring hydrogens, supplied as a red to dark red powder at 98% purity.
The bulky tert-butylphenoxy substituents twist the molecule out of planarity, which suppresses aggregation and improves solubility in organic solvents, while the perylene core still provides intense orange-red absorption and bright fluorescence. The anhydride groups remain available for conversion into imides, esters and polyimide chains.
The product is moisture-sensitive and should be stored dry, in a closed container protected from light and away from amines and strong bases.
• High-performance pigments and dyes: a precursor to perylene pigments and fluorescent dyes with strong orange-red shade and high lightfastness.
• Fluorescent materials: used to prepare perylene diimide fluorophores for solar concentrators, OLEDs and luminescent solar collectors.
• Polymer colourants: converted into soluble perylene imides for colouring engineering plastics and fibres.
• Organic electronics: applied as an electron-acceptor and light-harvesting component in photovoltaic and photoconductive devices.
