Cocamidopropylamine oxide (CAS 68155-09-9), commonly abbreviated CAPAO, is a mild amphoteric surfactant supplied as an aqueous solution. Its structure is RCONH(CH₂)₃N(CH₃)₂O with R representing the coconut alkyl chain, so a fixed molecular formula does not apply. It provides foaming, thickening and compatibility with anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants.
