Fluorescein Sodium
Fluorescein Sodium (CAS: 518-47-8), also called uranine, is the water-soluble sodium salt of fluorescein, a classic fluorescent dye with intense yellow-green emission.
It is supplied as an orange-red powder that dissolves in water to give strongly fluorescent solutions, even at very low concentrations.
It is widely used as a tracer, a marker and a colorant in industrial, environmental and laboratory applications.
The powder dissolves readily in water to give an intense yellow-green fluorescence. It should be stored closed, dry and away from light. Typical checks include dye content, loss on drying and clarity of solution.
• Hydrological and leak tracing: tracks groundwater flow, pipe leaks and water-system dispersion. Detection at very low concentration makes it practical and cost-effective.
• Analytical and laboratory use: fluorescent stain and indicator in microscopy and titrations. It is also used in angiography-grade and research solutions where regulations apply.
• Colorants and markers: used in cosmetics, soaps, detergents and as a coloring in antifreeze and test products. It gives vivid colour with excellent water solubility.
• Oil, gas and water-treatment monitoring: used as a tracer in well testing, cooling-water systems and wastewater studies.
