Fluorescent Brightener 185
Fluorescent Brightener 185 is a benzoxazolyl-thiophene optical brightener, supplied as a pale yellow powder at 98% purity.
The molecule absorbs ultraviolet light and emits an intense blue fluorescence, and its rigid, sulfur-containing heteroaromatic core gives it exceptional heat stability and resistance to sublimation. Those properties make it the preferred brightener for polyester, where high processing temperatures would degrade less robust structures.
The powder should be kept in a dry, closed container protected from direct sunlight, since prolonged UV exposure gradually reduces fluorescence intensity.
• Polyester brightening: applied by exhaust or pad-thermosol processes to give high whiteness and a brilliant blue-violet cast.
• Plastics and fibre masterbatch: used in polyester, polyamide and polypropylene where thermal stability during melt spinning is essential.
• Detergent and laundry formulations: incorporated to counteract yellowing and restore whiteness in synthetic fabrics.
• Paper and coating applications: applied in dispersion form for surface whitening of coated papers and board.
