Iridium Tetrachloride
Iridium Tetrachloride (CAS: 10025-97-5) is a dark brown to black crystalline iridium(IV) halide supplied at ≥98% purity. It is a defined, high-purity iridium source used to prepare iridium coordination compounds, iridium oxide electrode materials and heterogeneous catalysts. Because iridium is expensive, working with a well-characterised salt that has a known metal content makes charge calculation straightforward and keeps material loss low. The compound is hygroscopic and readily hydrolyses, so it is packed in sealed, tightly closed containers and stored dry for use in electrochemistry, catalyst preparation and materials research.
• Catalyst preparation: an iridium source for hydrogenation, oxidation and electrocatalytic iridium systems.
• Electrode materials: used to prepare iridium oxide coatings for dimensionally stable anodes and oxygen-evolution electrodes.
• Coordination and organometallic chemistry: a precursor for iridium complexes used in catalysis and photophysics.
• Electronic and thin-film work: applied in the deposition of iridium-containing functional layers.
