Iridium(IV) Oxide
Iridium(IV) Oxide (CAS: 12030-49-8) is a black, high-purity iridium dioxide powder that combines excellent electrical conductivity with outstanding chemical and electrochemical stability. These properties make it a benchmark material for oxygen-evolution and chlorine-evolution electrodes, where it resists corrosion in aggressive acidic media far better than most alternatives. It is also used as a catalyst, as a component in pH-sensitive electrode membranes, and as a precursor for iridium-containing functional coatings deposited by sputtering or thermal routes. The powder is supplied at 99.9% purity and should be kept dry to preserve its dispersion and surface behaviour.
• Dimensionally stable anodes: the active coating in oxygen- and chlorine-evolution electrodes for chlor-alkali and metal-finishing cells.
• Electrocatalysis: used in water electrolysis, fuel-cell and sensor electrodes requiring acid stability.
• Sensor and electrode materials: applied in pH and electrochemical sensor membranes and conductive layers.
• Thin films and coatings: a sputtering or thermal-evaporation source for iridium oxide functional films.
