Neodecanoyl Chloride
Neodecanoyl Chloride (CAS: 40292-82-8) is a branched C10 fatty acid chloride supplied as a colourless to pale yellow transparent liquid with a pungent odour.
As a highly reactive acylating agent it combines readily with alcohols, amines, peroxides and aromatic substrates, and it is handled under dry conditions because it hydrolyses on contact with moisture.
• Polymerisation initiator: key raw material for neodecanoyl peroxide and related peroxyesters used to initiate the suspension polymerisation of PVC, LDPE and acrylic monomers.
• Lubricant and fuel additives: used to build branched ester and amide structures that improve low-temperature flow and oxidative stability.
• Agrochemical and pharmaceutical synthesis: serves as a fast-reacting acylating agent for esters and amides where a branched C10 chain is required.
• Coatings and resins: modifies hydroxyl-functional polymers and alkyds to tune viscosity, hydrophobicity and adhesion.
