Oxidized Polyethylene (OPE), identified by CAS 68441-17-8, is a functionalized polymer produced through the controlled oxidation of polyethylene. This chemical modification introduces polar functional groups, including carboxylic acids and esters, onto the hydrocarbon chain. These groups significantly improve the polymer’s emulsifiability and its compatibility with polar materials, distinguishing it from traditional non-polar polyethylene waxes.

Technically, OPE is characterized by its high melting point, exceptional hardness, and low melt viscosity. These attributes make it an indispensable processing aid and surface modifier in various industrial sectors. Its ability to bridge the gap between polar and non-polar phases allows for more stable formulations and improved mechanical performance in complex material systems.

• In the plastics and PVC industry, Oxidized Polyethylene functions as a high-performance external lubricant. It facilitates the processing of rigid PVC by improving metal release and promoting fusion, which leads to enhanced surface gloss and reduced energy consumption during extrusion and molding operations.

• Within the coatings and printing ink sectors, this material is employed to boost surface toughness and slip. It provides significant resistance to scratching, scuffing, and marring, while its emulsifiable nature allows it to be easily incorporated into water-borne systems to improve rheological properties and film durability.

• In textile and leather processing, OPE serves as a finishing agent that enhances the physical handle and durability of the substrate. It improves sewability by reducing needle heat and friction, and it contributes to the water-repellent and abrasion-resistant characteristics of treated fabrics and hides.

• The material is also widely used in the formulation of floor polishes and industrial waxes. Its ability to form stable aqueous emulsions results in high-gloss, slip-resistant coatings that exhibit excellent durability against foot traffic and chemical cleaning agents.
