Palladium Hydroxide
Palladium Hydroxide (CAS: 12135-22-7) is a black palladium(II) compound supplied as a high-purity powder with a well-defined metal content. When deposited on carbon it forms the classic Pearlman’s catalyst, which is prized for debenzylation, hydrogenolysis of protecting groups and selective hydrogenation because the hydroxide phase is less aggressive than metallic palladium and gives cleaner selectivity. The neat powder is also used to prepare supported catalysts and palladium-containing specialty materials. It is air-stable but should be stored dry and in tightly closed containers because moisture uptake affects dispersion and catalytic behaviour.
• Hydrogenolysis: the active phase in Pearlman’s catalyst for removing benzyl, Cbz and other protecting groups.
• Selective hydrogenation: supports hydrogenation of unsaturated bonds, nitro groups and reductive aminations.
• Catalyst preparation: a defined palladium source for Pd/C, Pd/Al2O3 and other supported systems.
• Specialty materials: used in the preparation of palladium oxides, electrodes and fine-chemical process catalysts.
