Reactive Red 24
Reactive Red 24 is a monochlorotriazine reactive dye based on a sulfonated naphthylazo chromophore, supplied as a red to dark red powder at 95% dye content.
The molecule carries three sulfonate groups for water solubility and a chlorotriazine ring that reacts covalently with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose under alkaline conditions. Once fixed, the dye becomes part of the fibre rather than sitting on its surface, which is why the resulting red shade resists repeated washing.
The powder should be stored in a dry, closed container away from moisture, alkalis and reducing agents, since premature hydrolysis reduces the dye’s fixation efficiency.
• Cotton and viscose dyeing: applied by exhaust, cold pad-batch or continuous methods to give bright red shades with good wet fastness.
• Exhaust and printing: used in screen and digital printing pastes on cellulosic fabrics, where covalent fixation gives sharp outlines.
• Yarn and knitwear dyeing: suitable for package and winch dyeing of cotton yarns and knits.
• Textile processing reference: a standard trichromatic component in colour-matching libraries and in fastness testing programmes.
