Solvent Violet 13
Solvent Violet 13 (CAS: 81-48-1) is an anthraquinone dye that dissolves in organic solvents and plastics, giving a clean bluish-violet shade with excellent lightfastness and heat stability.
It is widely used to colour plastics, synthetic fibres, waxes, oils, inks and cosmetics as the colorant also known as D&C Violet 2.
Its solubility in non-polar media and good migration resistance make it suitable for transparent coloured resins and spin-dyed fibres.
The dye is supplied as a fine powder with strong tinctorial strength. It should be stored dry and away from strong oxidisers. Buyers check dye content, melting point and solubility to ensure clean shade and consistent coloration.
• Plastics and polymer colouring: transparent violet shades in PS, PC, ABS, PET and acrylics. Its thermal stability allows processing at typical polymer temperatures.
• Cosmetics and personal care: approved colorant for hair products, soaps and lipsticks under D&C Violet 2. Cosmetic use is subject to local colorant regulations, so confirm approval before formulation.
• Inks, waxes and fuels: used in solvent inks, candle wax, lubricants and oil tinting. Its good solubility in oils makes it easy to disperse.
• Fuels and lubricants: used for tinting oils and fuels to identify products and give a distinct violet colour.
