Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (CAS: 14221-01-3) is a ready-to-use zero-valent palladium complex and one of the most widely applied catalysts for carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond formation.

As a pre-formed palladium(0) source it initiates reactions without an activation step, giving dependable performance in Suzuki, Stille, Sonogashira, Heck and Negishi couplings.

The yellow crystalline solid is sensitive to air, light and heat, so it is normally supplied in sealed packs and stored under inert gas and cool, dark conditions to protect catalytic activity.

Because it is air- and light-sensitive, the product is best packed under inert atmosphere and kept refrigerated. Buyers commonly verify palladium content, colour (bright yellow, not green or brown) and absence of decomposition, which signal catalyst quality.

• Suzuki and Stille couplings: couples aryl, vinyl and alkyl partners under mild conditions with high selectivity. Its pre-formed Pd(0) state removes the induction period seen with Pd(II) precursors.

• Pharmaceutical intermediates: widely used in routes to complex drug molecules where clean, reproducible coupling is essential. It is commonly used in the late stages of synthesis where yield and impurity control are critical.

• Functional materials: employed in synthesising conjugated polymers, liquid-crystal and OLED materials. These materials underpin the performance of display and semiconductor intermediates.

• Allylic substitution and carbonylation: used for Tsuji-Trost allylation, carbonylation and amination reactions that build complex organic frameworks.
