Tributyltetradecylphosphonium Chloride
Tributyltetradecylphosphonium Chloride (CAS: 81741-28-8), known as TTPC, is a quaternary phosphonium salt most commonly supplied as a 50% aqueous solution, a colourless to pale yellow clear liquid.
The long alkyl chain gives the cation surfactant character and strong affinity for bacterial membranes, while the phosphonium centre resists degradation in reducing or oxidising environments, giving broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
The solid and 75% grades are also available; the solution is packed in drums or IBC containers for biocide and oilfield use.
• Oilfield biocides: controls sulfate-reducing and slime-forming bacteria in water systems and fracturing fluids.
• Industrial antimicrobials: used in cooling towers, paper mills and metalworking fluids.
• Phase transfer catalysis: a lipophilic phosphonium salt for anion transfer in organic synthesis.
• Disinfection: a non-oxidising active with good persistence in high-salinity brines.
