Triethylsilane
Triethylsilane (CAS: 617-86-7) is an organosilicon hydride supplied as a colorless liquid. It is a mild and selective reducing agent valued in organic synthesis for reducing carbocations, imines, and activated alkenes, and for scavenging carbocations in deprotection and rearrangement chemistry. It is used in palladium-catalyzed dehalogenation and in ionic-liquid synthesis, with broad application in pharmaceutical intermediate production. The Si-H bond reacts under acidic or metal-catalyzed conditions where conventional hydrides are too aggressive. The liquid is easy to meter in standard closed systems. Customers select it where chemoselective hydride transfer is required.
• Selective reductant: a mild hydride donor for imines, carbocations, and activated alkenes.
• Scavenger: traps carbocations in deprotection and rearrangement chemistry.
• Catalysis: used in palladium-catalyzed dehalogenation and ionic liquid synthesis.
• Form: colorless liquid, easy to meter and charge in standard closed systems.
