Zinc Phthalocyanine
Zinc phthalocyanine is a metal-containing phthalocyanine in which a zinc ion sits at the centre of the macrocyclic ring, supplied as a blue to dark blue powder at 95% purity.
The zinc centre enhances light absorption in the red region and improves photoconductivity and fluorescence compared with the metal-free compound, while the rigid phthalocyanine framework delivers outstanding thermal, chemical and light stability. This combination supports both colourant and functional-material uses.
The powder is stable under normal storage but should be kept dry and closed, away from strong acids that can demetallate the ring, and away from strong oxidising agents.
• Colourant and pigment base: a blue colorant component in coatings, inks and plastics with excellent lightfastness.
• Organic photoconductors: used as a charge-generation material in electrophotographic drums and in photovoltaic research.
• Catalysis: applied as a supported metal-phthalocyanine catalyst for oxidation and reduction reactions, including fuel-cell oxygen reduction studies.
• Optical and sensor materials: employed in fluorescent sensors, nonlinear optical films and photodynamic research.
